Officers
James S. Kuo, M.D., M.B.A. Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer Dr. Kuo was nominated as Chairman of Duska’s Board in July 2007. In October 2007, Duska’s Board appointed him as Chief Executive Officer. Previously, he was Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of BioMicro Systems, Inc., a private, venture-backed, profitable, research tools company. He led BioMicro’s product development, manufacturing, sales launch and marketing of the company’s microfluidic mixing instrument. Prior to that time, Dr. Kuo was President, and Chief Executive Officer of Discovery Laboratories, Inc., where he raised over $22 million in initial private funding and took the company public. He further is a Board Director of Monarch Labs, LLC, Chairman of the Board of DOR BioPharma, Inc., and a Board Directof of Pipex Pharmaceuticals, Inc. Dr. Kuo is the former Managing Director of Venture Analysis for HealthCare Ventures, LLC, which managed $378 million in venture funds. He has also been a senior pharmaceutical licensing and development executive at Pfizer, Inc. After studying molecular biology and receiving his B.A. at Haverford College, Dr. Kuo simultaneously received his M.D. from The University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine and his M.B.A. from The Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania.
Amir Pelleg, Ph.D. President, Chief Scientific Officer Dr. Pelleg is Duska’s President and Chief Scientific Officer. Dr. Pelleg was a Professor of Medicine and Pharmacology at Drexel University College of Medicine, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania from 1992 until 2004, and is currently an Adjunct Professor of Medicine at that institution. He is an internationally recognized expert on the physiology and pharmacology of ATP and related compounds in general, and their role in the cardiovascular system in particular. His research work has been supported by numerous grants from the National Institutes of Health, American Heart Association and pharmaceutical companies. Dr. Pelleg has published more than 100 peer-reviewed papers, and edited and co-authored three textbooks in this field. He is a member of the editorial board of The American Journal of Therapeutics and acts as an ad-hoc reviewer for numerous other leading scientific journals. His inventions covered by patents and pending patent applications, constitute a significant part of Duska’s proprietary technology platform. Dr. Pelleg holds a B.Sc. degree in Biology from Tel-Aviv University, M.S. in Bioengineering from the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn and a Ph.D. in Physiology from Louisiana State University. He was a NIH post-doctoral fellow at the University of Virginia.
Wayne Lorgus, C.P.A., M.B.A. Chief Financial Officer Mr. Lorgus is Chief Financial Officer of Duska Therapeutics. Mr. Lorgus is a partner in the national firm, B2B CFO/CIO, LLP, He served as chief financial officer of wholesaler Prestige International from 2003 to 2005, and as controller and chief accounting officer of the multinational manufacturer Andin International from 2001 to 2003. Earlier, he worked in executive-level and/or senior management positions for the online educational firm AvidLearn, Unidyne Corp., Sandberg & Sikorski Corp., Snow Ball Foods Corp., Campbell Soup Co. and Arthur Andersen & Co. Mr. Lorgus is a Certified Public Accountant in New York and Pennsylvania. He received a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from College of William and Mary and a Master of Business Administration from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. Mr. Lorgus is a Major in the U.S. Air Force Auxiliary, Delaware Wing.
Stephen Kutalek, M.D. Medical Director Dr. Kutalek is Duska’s Medical Director. Dr. Kutalek is a Professor of Medicine and Director of the Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology & Cardiac Pacing at Drexel University College of Medicine. Dr. Kutalek is a member of multiple professional societies, including the American College of Cardiology, the American Heart Association, the North American Society of Pacing and Electrophysiology and the American Federation for Clinical Research. He serves on the editorial board of the Journal of Invasive Cardiac Electrophysiology and acts as an ad hoc reviewer for leading professional journals. Dr. Kutalek has authored and co-authored more than 120 papers published in peer reviewed journals as well as numerous reviews and book chapters. Dr. Kutalek has extensive experience in clinical trials and acts as a consultant for several medical device manufacturing companies. He holds a BA degree from the Johns Hopkins University and a Doctor of Medicine from New York University School of Medicine.
Patrick Lin Director of Operations Mr. Lin is Duska’s Director of Operations and Corporate Secretary. Mr. Lin oversees the day to day operations of the Company. Earlier in his career, Mr. Lin was the Director of Business Development for Formosa Pharma, a subsidiary of OrientEuro Pharma. Prior to joining Duska, Mr. Lin managed the daily operations of HUYA Bioscience International, a San Diego biotech company focused on partnering and in-licensing technologies from China. While Mr. Lin was with the company, HUYA developed research partnerships with Organon International and Chipscreen Bioscienes and also began a Phase I clinical trial. Mr. Lin has over 10 years of experience in business operation of startup companies. Beginning his career as a software developer, Mr. Lin was a founder of an information technology company based in the San Francisco bay area. After graduating from Phillips Exeter Academy in Exeter, New Hampshire, Mr. Lin attended the University of California where he studied Economics and Computer Engineering.
